Why this matters: designating an agent is the precondition for the DMCA Section 512(c) safe harbor. With it, Greenlight is shielded from copyright liability when a user uploads someone else's photo, as long as you take reported material down. Without it, that shield does not apply. It is a one afternoon task with real protection.

In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), 17 U.S.C. Section 512, Greenlight will respond promptly to notices of alleged copyright infringement that are reported to our Designated Copyright Agent and that comply with the requirements below.
Reporting infringement. If you own a copyright, or are authorized to act for the owner, and you believe that material on Greenlight infringes that copyright, please send a written notice to our Designated Copyright Agent that includes all of the following (see 17 U.S.C. Section 512(c)(3)):
Designated Copyright Agent. Notices must be sent to:
[Agent full name or role, for example "DMCA Agent"]
[Company legal name, for example "Greenlight [Inc./LLC]"]
[Street address]
[City, State ZIP]
Email: [dmca@greenlightdate.com]
Repeat infringers. Greenlight will, in appropriate circumstances, disable or terminate the accounts of members who are found to repeatedly infringe the copyrights of others.
Counter notification. If you believe that material you posted was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may send a written counter notification to our Designated Copyright Agent, as allowed under 17 U.S.C. Section 512(g). We may restore the material unless the original complainant files a court action seeking to keep it down.
Misrepresentation. Under 17 U.S.C. Section 512(f), anyone who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages.
